Having played 10 of the 11 RTJ Trail Sites, the Grand National is one of my favorites. Like most all other sites, the Lakes course is challenging and beautiful..
But for some reason, Grand National has probably the nicest and most professional people working here.
The facilities are superb and the staff are wonderful.
The Robert Trent Jones Trail at Grand National is the perfect place for peace, quiet, and recreational fun. The scenery is beautiful and relaxing. It is a great place to practice your swing, get a game with friends, or go for a walk to take in nature. There is also a wonderful store for supplies and cafe with tasty treats. One of the nicest golf courses you will find! Well worth the trip and green fees!
Great courses. Beautiful property out away from the city. Good food and service. The only complaint is some of the marshalls badgered us for being behind on time when we were ahead of the next group by an entire hole. We were enjoying our round and holding no one up, pacing ourselves conscientiously, but they kept on harassing us to meet their time expectations with no acknowledgement that we were way ahead of the trailing group. Eventually, we pushed them to explain why we needed to pick up the pace. Alas, they had no answer and apologized and left us alone for the rest of the round.
As an avid golfer, I've had the opportunity to experience many golf courses across the country, but few have left such a lasting impression as the Grand National in Opalaka, Alabama. From the moment I arrived, the friendly and accommodating staff went above and beyond to ensure my experience was nothing short of spectacular. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is truly commendable and sets the tone for a memorable golfing adventure.
The practice facilities at the Grand National are equally impressive, with a wide range of flags set up from 70 yards out to 300 yards out. This thoughtful layout allows you to practice your attack with every club in your bag, helping you fine-tune your skills and prepare for the challenges ahead on the courses. The driving range and practice greens are meticulously maintained, ensuring optimal conditions for honing your craft.
The Grand National boasts a challenging Links-style course that is sure to test even the most skilled golfers. With its rolling fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and meticulous greens, the course pushes you to elevate your game and rewards you with a sense of accomplishment. The natural beauty of the surrounding landscape adds to the overall experience, making each hole a picturesque delight.
But the true gem of the Grand National is its breathtaking Lake course. With several holes designed to play along the serene shoreline, the course offers stunning panoramic views of the pristine waters. The layout demands precision and strategy, as water hazards come into play on numerous holes, challenging golfers to maintain focus and keep their nerves in check. The Lake course is a testament to the perfect marriage of nature and golf, offering a truly immersive experience that is sure to captivate any golfer's heart.
For those looking for a more casual round, the par 3 course is an absolute blast to play. With its creative hole designs and relaxed atmosphere, it provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and have some fun on the greens. The course is suitable for all skill levels, making it an ideal spot to introduce newcomers to the game or to simply enjoy some quality time with friends and family.
In conclusion, the Grand National in Opalaka, Alabama, is a must-visit golf destination for enthusiasts and novices alike. The friendly and attentive staff, exceptional practice facilities, challenging and diverse courses, and the stunning natural beauty combine to create an unforgettable experience. If you have the opportunity to visit, don't hesitate—your golfing soul will thank you.
The golf course is in great shape. There is a little bit too much of a corporate vibe however. I played on July the 2nd in a scattered thunderstorm popped up and passed about 10 miles away. There was thunder in the distance and no lightning to be seen. We were removed from the golf course and waited at the clubhouse until 7:00 in the evening. At that time we were told the golf course was closing. I was not offered any kind of a rain check or refund for the holes that we did not get to play.
I have played five other courses on the RTJ trail in Alabama. They were all Great experiences. I don't know what happened here, but it was the worst few rounds of golf I have ever played. On the first day we were set to play the short course, when my son and I arrived at the tee box, there was someone teeing off at our tee time. I asked the Marshall and he said everybody's a little behind. I said okay no problem. Well the guys teeing off took more than ten minutes to finish the hole. There are so many things that went wrong, I would highly recommend that you find somewhere else to play!!!
It was our first time visiting Hilton Head and RTJ Golf Trail, and to say it was anything less than extraordinary would be an understatement. From the moment we stepped into the facility to request our tee time to the ocean views to the driving range, everything was spectacular!
The service especially was impeccable; Shayne was courteous, professional and helped make the experience memorable. 12/10 would recommend this stunning course!
